"Rejection is the most important mental process we use for starting a love relationship. Although we call it rejection it is really a process of elimination. Most of us don’t realize how many times a day we use it in our many encounters. Every time we go out into the world and meet other people we gather information about them and from that information we form a personal opinion of them. We either accept them or eliminate them as a possible friend or love interest based entirely on this information. We find out very quickly that first impressions are not very reliable because there are so many people out there hiding behind their altered egos so we continue to gather information until we either feel safe having them in our lives, or we don’t. We are looking for someone who will accept us for who we are so we can relax in his or her company and just be ourselves. Friendships form almost immediately after we successfully breach this barrier and our fear begins to fade. Friendships are the simplest form of a love relationship."
